Stonewall Jackson Elementary is an excellent public school in the Dallas Independent School District. Since 1996 part of their curriculum has been the Stonewall Gardens, a campus garden where thousands of students have planted, cultivated and harvested their own crops, growing their understanding of – and connection to – the natural world and good food. The goal of Stonewall Gardens is to help children learn about the natural world in a garden they can tend themselves. The garden started with teacher and parent volunteers planting a small plot of beans in an unused corner of the grounds of Stonewall Jackson Elementary. Today, the original plot has evolved into a 20,000 square foot garden, where students learn from a rich academic program. Last year the school district’s budget crisis hit Stonewall hard and the school lost funding for the garden. Stonewall Gardens is now a volunteer-run non profit organization supported entirely through community donations. The garden needs your help. If you would like to be a part of this important educational program you can mail a donation to Stonewall Gardens,
